Porcelain Veneers – Porcelain Laminates

One of the amazing benefits of veneers (laminates) is that they are very quick to make, you need only two appointments in the dental office. Also they bond to the frontal surface of the tooth without excessive reduction of the original tooth.

First dental visit: Tooth Preparation

The tooth preparation for porcelain veneers requires a tooth reduction of 0.5mm of the front part of the dental surface.

• The laboratory time required for the fabrication of a porcelain laminate veneer is approximately 5 days. Due to the minimal amount of tooth reduction, it is usually not necessary to make any type of temporary restoration. Should a temporary tooth be needed, they will be made at the time of your first visit.

Secont Dental Visit: Insertion of your veneers

Your second visit, the insertion of your laminate, can be accomplished with or without local anesthetic. This visit is usually longer in length. The laminates are placed with a light sensitive resin which is hardened by using a white light.

• They are made with strong porcelain, beautifully thin and smooth, and look exactly like your own teeth, the final results are very natural.

• In most cases we recommend a Zoom Whitening before the veneers for better long term color results.

• Porcelain veneers can easily last for 7 to 10 years. In some cases, when people grind their teeth or chew things like pencils, pen, or ice cubes, this could cause trauma and eventually cause a chip or crack in their veneer.

• Once placed, porcelain laminate veneers are typically the kindest restoration to the gum tissues that we currently have in our prosthetic armamentarium. Do not be afraid that you will damage your laminates by either flossing or brushing. A good home care regimen will insure the esthetic success of your laminate restorations for years to come.

• Some sensitivity to hot and cold may be experienced after the placement of your veneers. This relates to the amount of enamel left on your tooth after preparation. Some sensitivity is absolutely normal and usually dissipates after one-two weeks.
